After a hell of a push heading into Twilight weekend, the disappointment of having to cancel the Time Trial at the last minute, and all the revelry we could handle at Little Kings on Saturday night, let's get together with only actual mountain biking in mind and knock out a few laps at the Trail Creek Trails. Meet in the upper parking lot at 6:30pm.
THE TIME TRIAL IS CANCELLED!
BUT THE FAT TIRE CRIT DOWTOWN IS STILL ON!
The Crit is scheduled to start at 4:40p.m.
Please be downtown by 4p.m.
You must be pre-registered to ride in the Mountain Bike Criterium downtown and you must purchase the one day USAC license either downtown at the Washington Street Parking Deck or online here (print it out and bring it with you).
click the image above for a more in-depth route map
**the route has been altered slightly from the map above. riders will now start and end in the middle parking lot...next to the tree symbol above...and ride on the walkway that starts at the west end of that parking lot.**
PLEASE USE THE PETER STREET ENTRANCE (NEAR THE BY-PASS)!
THE TRAIL CREEK STREET ENTRANCE WILL BE CLOSED DURING THE RACE!
Riders will start the 2.5 mile course in the middle parking lot of Trail Creek Park. Riders will race up the paved path by the soccer field, through the woods, and back around the upper parking lot. Riders will enter the trail system traveling clockwise and descend down Panic, through the Pine Forest, and race under the Trail Creek Street bridge. Next riders will cross over the Boyscout Bridge and turn left onto the Green Trail. In this super fast section riders will turn left onto the Connector Trial, then follow the Orange Trail from last year's course through the upper section of the trail. Riders will then fly down the power line descent, bypassing Josh's Jump, and connect back to the Green Trail. The final section of the course will be the Green Trail to the Gravel Triangle. Once at the Gravel Triangle, riders will exit the trail system onto the Greenway, and the final sprint of the course will be on the Greenway and Trail Creek Street. Riders will have to finish strong on the final uphill drag back to the middle parking lot of the park.
Top 50 times across all categories will qualify to race in the nighttime Scott Mountain Bike Finals Criterium, which will be held on the downtown 4-corner Twilight course and will be 20K long (20 laps). Payouts will be determined based on the number of entrants.
In an effort to make this a true mountain bike race, riders will ride the same bike for the Criterium as they ride for the Time Trial, except tires may be switched out.
- Gears and chain rings can NOT be switched out.
- No drop bars will be allowed.
- Tire width has to be at least 1.5 inches.
- Slick tires are allowed.
- Please plan to be there early so that they can stay on schedule.
Day of registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Racing starts at 9 a.m. Only check and cash will be accepted as payment on Saturday for on-site registration.
Online registration closes @ Noon on Wednesday, April 22, 2014.
Entry fee is $25 for racers who pre-register online. There is a $10 late fee for day-of registration. Any racer who does not have a USAC license will have to purchase a $10 1-day license onsite.

The machine work on the new Drive-by Truckers trail is almost complete, but there is a lot of finish work to do. The workdays will be short and easy so you will have the time and energy to get in a few laps when you are done. Please help out when you can. If a workday is cancelled or rescheduled, we will announce it on our event calendar and Facebook.
Do you love mountain biking? Do you want more trails in the Athens area Then you should join IMBA/SORBA-Athens today! It only take a few minutes to complete the online application. IMBA and SORBA have merged so when you join IMBA you automatically join SORBA. Choose Athens as your local chapter and a large chunk of your membership fee will go directly to us. We will use those funds to build more trails, maintain existing trails, and promote mountain biking in the Athens area. BONUS: During the month of March, your membership enters you to win great prizes like a Scott Genius mountain bike or a VIP mountain bike trip to the Burning Can Festival at The Oskar Blues REEB Ranch in Brevard, NC!
You can also support us by pre-ordering our new Weevil Jersey. Weevil is giving us a substantial portion of the proceeds from every jersey sold. It is pre-order/prepay only so order yours by April 1st to ensure you get one. They should arrive sometime in early April.
Our next Chapter Meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday March 18th at Terrapin Brewery in the conference room above the tasting room. Come find out what we have been up to and what our plans are for the future. We'll hold our annual elections for the following positions:
At Large Board Position #1
At Large Board Position #2
Nominations for positions can be made by anyone. You can even nominate yourself. If more than one person is nominated for a position, we vote. Anyone interested in mountain biking is encouraged to attend. You do not have to be a member to attend, but you must be a member to vote or run for office.
Workdays 12 to 3 p.m. at the Upper Parking Lot.
Group Rides at 3 p.m.
We decided to change up the group rides. We will now have a combination workday/group ride on the 3rd Sunday of every month. The workday will be short and easy with a group ride after. You can join us for either or both. If you come for the workday portion, please wear long pants and bring a water bottle.
Trail Creek Trail Map
If a workday or ride is cancelled, we will announce it on our Event Calendar and Facebook Page.
The Widespread downhill is rutted out in a few places due to folks riding this newly built trail while it was wet and during the freeze/thaw process. The priority for the workdays this weekend will be fixing the damage and making a few final tweaks on Widespread. As time and labor permits, we also plan to start doing the finish work on the even newer Drive by Truckers trail. Please bring a water bottle and a hard rake, mcleod and/or rogue hoe if you have one. We will be out there on both Saturday and Sunday Noon to 3 p.m. Meet at the Upper Parking Lot at noon.
